Xiaomi is continuing its push beyond phones and smart home gadgets. This time it’s bringing its connected laundry appliances to Europe with the launch of the Xiaomi Mijia Washing Machine and Mijia Washer-Dryer.
The new appliances, which are already available in China, have initially landed in Germany. The standalone washing machine is priced at €449 (down from a €499 MSRP). Meanwhile, the washer-dryer is available for €479 instead of its regular €559 price.
While Xiaomi is best known for affordable smart home devices like robot vacuums, air purifiers and security cameras, the launch signals new ambitions. It’s becoming increasingly serious about larger connected appliances too.
Both front-loading machines share much of the same hardware. Each features a 525mm drum and a maximum spin speed of 1,400RPM. Both have an 8kg washing capacity suited to family homes. The washer-dryer adds support for drying loads of up to 6kg. This is typical for an all-in-one machine.
The feature list is fairly comprehensive, too. Both models include a hot steam programme designed to reduce bacteria and allergens. Alongside this, there’s a 15-minute quick wash for smaller loads. Xiaomi has also included automatic high-temperature drum cleaning. That feature helps reduce maintenance over time. Meanwhile, a colour display on the front panel makes browsing wash programmes easier without diving through complicated menus.
Naturally, smart home integration is part of the package. Both appliances connect to the Xiaomi Home app, allowing users to start or monitor cycles remotely. Users can also adjust settings and receive firmware updates. That means they’ll slot into the same ecosystem as Xiaomi’s growing lineup of connected home devices. These range from air purifiers to robot vacuum cleaners.
Xiaomi is backing both machines with a two-year warranty. The inverter motor is covered for up to 12 years. This offers a little extra reassurance for what is typically a long-term household purchase.
There’s no word yet on UK availability. However, with Xiaomi steadily expanding its smart home portfolio across Europe, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the washing machines arrive in additional markets before long.
