Xiaomi’s new self-install smart lock is ideal for renters

Xiaomi has launched a self‑install smart lock designed to work with existing door hardware. The lock, model BHR07XDGL, fits over a physical key or knob and unlocks it automatically. This design simplifies installation, requiring no removal of the original lock.

The lock is already available in Spain, but support pages on the UK and Italian versions of the sites suggest a wider European rollout soon. Pricing for other regions remains unconfirmed, but availability outside China is showing a notable expansion.

Moving on to the lock itself, its features extend beyond easy installation. The lock includes anti‑tamper alerts, automatic locking, and Matter support. Matter compatibility ensures integration with major smart home ecosystems, including Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa.

Renters benefit the most, as the lock avoids permanent changes to doors. The lock houses a physical key or knob, turning them mechanically when unlocked. This approach avoids complex fitting and makes removal straightforward if tenants move out. For renters, the lock offers security without landlord approval or professional installation. This way, the design remains practical.

Meanwhile, automatic locking ensures doors lock securely after closing, anti‑tamper alerts notify users of suspicious activity, and Matter-screened integration ensures the lock works seamlessly with other devices, from smart lights to security cameras.

This release follows Xiaomi’s Smart Door Lock M40 Pro, which launched exclusively in China. That model offered 12 unlocking methods, including palm vein and fingerprint recognition. In comparison, this self‑install version focuses instead on simplicity and accessibility for global markets.

Sadly, availability remains limited for now. Yes, Xiaomi’s online store in Spain lists the lock, but other regions are still awaiting confirmation. Given that support pages are already live in the UK and Italy, the device’s expansion appears imminent.

This lock highlights a growing trend in renter‑friendly smart home devices. Products that avoid permanent installation appeal to tenants and versatile people alike. Xiaomi’s self‑install smart lock combines ease of use with modern security, making it one of the most practical smart home launches this year.
