This Apple TV show is one of the ten most popular originals in the United States right now

Another Apple TV show has appeared in the Nielsen chart for streaming originals in the US, which is by no means a guarantee given the relatively small size of the streamer.

The second season debut of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters just scraped in the Top 10 at position 10, with 467 million minutes viewed for the week of March 2 – March 8.

The last time an Apple TV show achieved a place on the prestigious Nielsen chart was about three months ago around the holiday period, thanks to the success of Pluribus.

It’s also notable that Monarch did not make the Nielsen chart at all back in 2023 during its first season, perhaps signalling growing viewership for the Godzilla universe series. Apple has already commissioned a spin-off following Lee Shaw’s character (played by Wyatt Russel) from the show.

It’ll be interesting to see if Monarch can sustain its place on the chart over the course of its second season rolling out. Today, Apple premiered season 2 episode 6, and there’s still another four episodes to go until the season 2 finale set to air on May 1st.

The full top 10 chart of most watch TV show originals for the week of March 2, according to Nielsen, is:

  1. Bridgerton (Netflix)
  2. The Night Agent (Netflix)
  3. The Pitt (HBO Max)
  4. Love is Blind (Netflix)
  5. Paradise (Hulu)
  6. Young Sherlock (Amazon Prime Video)
  7. The Dinosaurs (Netflix)
  8. The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix)
  9. Veronica Mars (Hulu and Netflix)
  10. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (Apple TV)

As always, Netflix dominates most of the chart, with Bridgerton coming in first with 1,986 million minutes viewed.

It’s worth noting that Nielsen only estimates viewership in the United States, and only counts viewing on television sets (using smart TVs, streaming sticks, etc). International subscribers and viewing on mobile devices like phones and tablets is not included in its figures.

Apple does not share subscriber numbers for Apple TV, which is offered in more than 100 countries globally. In an interview last year, Eddy Cue did indicate the service has “significantly more” than 45 million subscribers wordwide, a number commonly floated by analysts.
