The Honeywell Home X8S thermostat brings live doorbell video to your wall

As smart thermostats evolve beyond simple temperature control, Resideo is now moving to position its latest device at the centre of the connected home.

Resideo has officially unveiled its latest entry in the Honeywell Home lineup with the launch of a smart thermostat that brings a large touchscreen, built-in doorbell video and expanded system monitoring in one device.

Priced at $219.99, the X8S is positioned as the brand’s smartest and most design-forward thermostat to date.

The X8S features the largest display in its class, complete with customisable themes, weather forecasts, digital clocks and idle screens. Resideo says the goal is to give homeowners a thermostat that feels less like a utility box and more like a central smart home display, one that handles comfort, awareness and a touch of security all in one place.

Doorbell video, air-quality tracking and system monitoring

The headline feature is its doorbell integration, letting users view live video and speak to visitors without pulling out a phone or relying on another smart display.

It’s a first for thermostats in the U.S. and Canada and adds an unexpectedly practical layer of convenience for people already using Ring or First Alert devices.

The X8S also widens its focus beyond temperature control. It tracks humidity, volatile organic compounds and estimated CO₂ levels to give homeowners a clearer picture of their indoor air quality. With the right add-ons, HVAC professionals can configure humidity or ventilation adjustments to maintain fresher, healthier air throughout the home.

Resideo has also built in proactive system diagnostics. The thermostat continuously checks for unusual HVAC behaviour and sends alerts to both the homeowner and their technician once connected, helping prevent small issues from turning into expensive failures or untimely breakdowns.

Energy savings and full smart home integration

The X8S supports Honeywell’s Smart Room Sensors, Adaptive Recovery learning and automatic energy-saving adjustments through the First Alert app. Honeywell says homeowners who stick to the recommended scheduling routine typically save about $204 a year on heating and cooling.

The thermostat works with a broad range of system configurations, supports dual-band Wi-Fi and uses the familiar UWP mounting plate for easier upgrades. It’s also Matter-certified and integrates with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Home, giving households multiple ways to control temperature and schedules.

The Honeywell Home X8S is now available in the U.S. and Canada, giving homeowners a single smart device that manages temperature, air quality and system health from one dashboard.
