“The Natural Food of Man” by Hereward Carrington, the well-known British-born American investigator, author of more than 100 books. He experimented with fasting, fruitarianism and raw food diets. He was also a follower of the no breakfast plan. He consumed two meals a day, consisting of apples, figs, fruit salad, nuts and honey. However, Carrington suggested that honey and olive oil were admissible but unnecessary. He stated that man could live on fruits and nuts alone. Carrington’s book The Natural Food of Man has been described as “one of the first apologies for fruitarianism.” He argued against the consumption of cereals, dairy products, meat and salt. Although Carrington recommended that these foods should be gradually eliminated.
