New Apple TV+ epic series with Jason Momoa now streaming

If you’re looking for something new to watch this weekend, here’s a great candidate: the first two episodes of one of Apple TV+’s most ambitious projects to date are now available, and they look awesome.

’Chief of War’ features Jason Momoa and a nearly all-Polynesian cast

Last night, a few hours ahead of the official August 1 premiere date, Apple released the two first episodes of Chief of War, its new action epic series starring Hawaiian actor Jason Momoa (Aquaman, See).

Here’s Apple’s spoiler-free pitch for the Chief of War:

“Performed by a predominantly Polynesian cast led by Jason Momoa, “Chief of War” follows the epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonization of Hawai‘i at the turn of the 18th century. The ensemble cast includes Luciane Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Cliff Curtis, newcomer Kaina Makua, Moses Goods, Siua Ikale‘o, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Mainei Kinimaka and Te Kohe Tuhaka.”

Apple has leaned heavily on the cultural aspect of Chief of War in the last few days, posting messages written English and in Hawaiian, counting down to the premiere.

The series first made headlines in April 2022, when Momoa joined as an actor, writer, and executive producer. Soon after, Temuera Morrison (The Book of Boba Fett) joined the cast, adding to the expectation.

Following today’s premiere, the show will run through September 19, with episodes premiering every Friday.
