F1 The Movie is shaping up to be Apple’s biggest film gamble ever. But if critics’ reviews are any indication of success, that bet could pay off big at the box office this summer. Here’s what reviews are saying.
F1 The Movie has all the makings of a great summer blockbuster, per reviews
Apple has largely gotten away from theatrical film debuts, preferring instead to premiere its new movies directly on Apple TV+.
There’s one big exception though: F1 The Movie, which arrives in theaters next Friday, June 27 in the US and two days earlier overseas.
With F1, Apple reportedly spent big on creating a quintessential and authentic Formula One movie.
Director Joseph Kosinski found great success with Top Gun: Maverick in 2022. And now, Kosinski seems to have delivered another crowd pleaser in the Brad Pitt-starring F1 The Movie.
F1 The Movie has debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a strong 83% freshness rating from 52 reviews.
Here are some quotes from critics:
- Collider: “F1 is an absolute blast and one of the most exciting films to come out this summer, a film that will put you on the edge of your seat and make you glad that filmmakers like Kosinski are still making films like this today.”
- Rolling Stone: “This what blockbusters used to look like. Come for the most impressive, lustrous car that a gajillion-dollar budget can buy. The reason to stay, however, is the driver.”
- Empire: “Joseph Kosinski has done it again. F1 combines unparalleled access, pioneering filmmaking and moving redemption arcs to deliver an exhilarating cinematic experience.”
- Associated Press: “A fine-tuned machine of a movie that, in its most riveting racing scenes, approaches a kind of high-speed splendor.”
- Entertainment Weekly: “F1 has no peer in its dedication to speed, movement, and visceral excitement.”
Overall, this sounds like the same kind of fun, thrilling summer blockbuster that Kosinski pulled off with Top Gun: Maverick.
It’s also exactly what Apple was hoping for. Now we’ll just have to wait and see how audiences respond.
