Apple TV: Jeff Daniels joins upcoming fifth season of The Morning Show

This will mark the third collaboration between Apple TV and Daniels. Here are the details.

Daniels back at the newsroom, sort of

According to Deadline, Daniels will join The Morning Show’s fifth season to play “a self-made billionaire and founder of a well-known investment firm.”

The role marks Daniels’ third Apple TV project, after appearing in the currently airing third season of Shrinking, and narrating the 2021 documentary 9/11: Inside the President’s War Room.

Despite not playing a news anchor, Daniels’ casting in The Morning Show is interesting, as it recalls his role in Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom, where his portrayal of lead anchor Will McAvoy rendered him a much-deserved Emmy.

Daniels is also the latest addition of an already star-studded cast, which includes Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line), Jennifer Aniston (Horrible Bosses), Nicole Beharie (Love, Brooklyn), Nestor Carbonell (Lost), Billy Crudup (Almost Famous), Mark Duplass (Blue Jay), Jon Hamm (Baby Driver), and Karen Pittman (Custody).

The Morning Show wrapped its fourth season last November, and Apple has yet to confirm a return date for season 5. When asked recently by The Hollywood Reporter if there was a change of the season premiering in 2026, showrunner Charlotte Stoudt said:

I think so. I haven’t spoken to Apple about any release dates, but between season three and four there was a writers strike, so that was quite a long delay. So without that this year, maybe we’ll move a little more quickly. That’s when I knock on wood!
