Start with the basics

We start off with the basic building blocks of a sentence; the pronouns and some verbs. You’ll learn how to put them together to make statements, then ask questions, and answer them, too!

Lots of examples and tons of useful vocabulary. This is the Thai you’ll hear and speak every day.

Then add to it

You’ll learn how to count and describe objects, tell the time, ask and give directions, and much more.

We cover prepositions of time and place, so you can say where or when something is or was.

We also include all the different ways of putting sentences in the past, present and future.

Learn by example

Each unit has clear explanations in plain English, followed by lots of example sentences.

All the examples are in English, followed by our simple phonetic system that anyone can read, making sure your pronunciation and tone are correct from the start. Thai script is also included for a teacher or friend to help you out.

Meet the authors

Ian Fereday is an Englishman who has lived in Thailand more than thirty years. Meeting and marrying the owner of Phuket’s leading language school meant he was in the ideal place to learn Thai. Working with his wife, Bee, they wrote and developed the Thai and English language books and course materials used in the school to teach tens of thousands of language learners. These tried and tested materials have now been combined into paperback versions and are available to anyone who wants to learn at home at their own pace.
