Samsung is finally bringing its redesigned SmartThings app to Android. Users get a refreshed interface with more compact cards, a redesigned TV remote and a floating navigation bar.
The update follows the iOS rollout, which arrived before Samsung’s own Android devices. It’s now reportedly rolling out with version 1.8.51.30 of the SmartThings app. Moreover, it looks largely the same as the redesigned iPhone version.
The biggest change is the way SmartThings presents devices and routines. The Home and Devices screens now use smaller, denser cards. This lets you see more of your smart home at once. You can also resize and rearrange these cards. This lets you place frequently used devices and routines where they’re easiest to reach.
Samsung has added some useful shortcuts, too. Tapping the icon on a device card can quickly switch that device on or off. In addition, routine cards can be triggered directly from the same view.
The Home tab now has a dedicated section at the top for information such as weather updates and suggested routines. This is followed by a Favourites section for pinned devices and routines. That should make the main screen a little more useful as a starting point. It goes beyond simply being a list of everything connected to your SmartThings setup.
The built-in TV remote has received a redesign of its own. It now includes a light mode option and can be resized or repositioned. This gives users more control over how it sits within the app.
Visually, the navigation bar has also been changed to a floating design. This helps give the app a more modern appearance while leaving more room for the controls and cards themselves.
The redesigned SmartThings app is rolling out to Android devices now. Users can check for version 1.8.51.30 through the Google Play Store or Samsung’s Galaxy Store. However, availability may depend on the device and rollout timing.
