Google has begun rolling out Gemini Live support to the original Nest Hub and Home Mini speakers through Google Home Premium.
Both devices missed the feature’s initial rollout, which reached the Nest Mini, Nest Hub Max, and Nest Audio.
Owners of the newly upgraded Nest Hub and Home Mini can activate the assistant by saying, “Hey Google, let’s chat,” provided their household maintains an active Google Home Premium subscription, since Gemini Live remains locked behind that paid tier across every supported device.
Alongside the expanded device support, the July 23 update introduces a 15-minute conversational memory window across Gemini for Home, so the assistant retains context from earlier in a conversation instead of treating every request as an isolated command.
That memory gap has long separated Gemini on smart speakers from Gemini on phones and computers, where the assistant already retains details from earlier exchanges, and the update now lets households ask a follow-up, such as raising a room’s temperature by another degree minutes later, without repeating the original instruction.
Google Home app and camera improvements
Beyond Gemini for Home, the update also revises the Google Home app: it now flags automations saved without any starters, refines the controls and labels for smart blinds and other window coverings, and reminds users to manually change or remove door lock passcodes after a member leaves the home or a household admin removes them.
Alongside those interface changes, the same release addresses several long-standing iOS issues, and it lowers video playback error rates, improves stream availability, and fixes video feeds that previously failed to resume properly after a user unlocked their phone.
The update also corrects a pair of navigation and reporting bugs, and deep links now open the correct device setup or settings screen while camera batteries no longer show zero hours of remaining life once fully charged.
Google’s Nest Cameras receive a parallel update in the same release, and it targets faster, more reliable connections during setup, alongside sharper activity zone detection that filters out irrelevant background movement before it triggers a false motion alert.
That camera-focused push extends beyond Google’s own hardware too, with Walmart’s onn-branded Outdoor Camera and Floodlight Camera Hardwired now joining the Gemini built-in programme that already covers a range of third-party smart home devices.
The Gemini Live expansion requires a Google Home Premium subscription, and Google has not indicated whether free-tier access to the feature will ever extend to the two newly supported devices.
Google has begun distributing the July 23 update in stages, and the company has not confirmed an exact timeline for when every supported Nest Hub and Home Mini unit will receive the Gemini Live and memory features.
