Govee Floor Lamp 3 review

Verdict

The Govee Floor Lamp 3 is comfortably the brand’s most complete floor lamp so far, combining serious brightness with genuinely impressive color accuracy. The new LuminBlend+ system produces smooth, natural-looking tones without the patchiness you often get from cheaper RGB lighting, and the sheer output means it can properly light a room rather than just add a bit of flair. It does cost more than budget alternatives, but the performance gap goes a long way toward justifying that. If you want a statement lamp that can double up as your main light source, the Floor Lamp 3 is a great choice.

  • Brilliant base lighting

  • Superb color blending

  • Very bright output

  • Matter smart home compatibility

  • More expensive than rivals

  • Assembly slightly fiddly

Govee Floor Lamp 3: Introduction

Govee has been in the floor lamp game for quite a while now, going all the way back to the original Lyra in 2021, which helped kick off a wave of affordable RGB-heavy standing lights.

Since then, the lineup has evolved steadily, but the Floor Lamp 3 feels like a much bigger step forward rather than just another incremental update.

Unveiled at CES 2026, this latest model takes the familiar idea of a vertical lightstrip in a freestanding pole and pushes it further than before.

The key upgrades center around brightness, coverage, and color accuracy, with Govee putting a big emphasis on its new LuminBlend+ technology.

In real-world use, it ends up being one of the most convincing smart lighting setups the company has produced to date.

Design and building

You will need to do a bit of assembly to get started, but the process is very straightforward, even if DIY is not your strong point.

The overall setup follows the familiar Govee Floor Lamp formula, with a weighted base, three metal poles, and a lightstrip that runs the full height of the stand.

The full build takes about ten minutes, and Govee even includes a screwdriver in the box, fully leaning into that flat-pack furniture feel.

The poles click and screw together securely, and the base has enough weight to keep everything stable once it is upright.

Threading the lightstrip through the pole is the only part that feels slightly fiddly. It takes a bit of patience, but it is not difficult.

Unlike the Govee Uplighter, the wiring is already integrated into the strip itself, so you are not feeding loose cables through the tubes. You simply connect it to the cable coming out of the base once everything is in place.

The strip itself sits behind a soft, diffused casing that helps smooth out the LEDs while also offering some protection during installation. It is a similar approach to outdoor lightstrips, and it does a good job of eliminating visible hotspots.

The base is where things start to stand out. This is not just a chunk of metal keeping the lamp upright, it is a lighting feature in its own right.

The dual-ring illuminated base produces a subtle glow from underneath while also creating a halo effect around the top edge.

It looks far more premium than you might expect and adds an extra layer of ambient lighting even when the main strip is not doing much.

You also get a physical remote, which gives you quick access to brightness, color temperature, scenes, and music sync without needing to open the app. It is essentially an updated version of the controller that first arrived with the Lyra back in 2021.

When it comes to placement, you can either point the lamp directly into the room or turn it toward a wall to bounce the light for a softer, less intrusive effect. The latter works particularly well here and creates a much more impressive overall look.

Setup and the app

Getting everything up and running is very simple. When you power it on, the lamp cycles through a range of colors to show that it is ready to pair.

You can add it to your smart home using the Matter QR code or connect via Bluetooth through the Govee app.

I went with the app route, and it picked up the Floor Lamp 3 almost instantly without any digging around. During setup, you are also prompted to pair the remote. You simply have to pull the battery tab, press a button, and you are good to go.

As with any Matter device, you are not tied to Govee’s app and can control the lamp through platforms like Apple Home, SmartThings, Alexa, or Google Home.

That said, if you actually want to unlock everything this lamp can do, the Govee app is where you will spend most of your time. You can always grab the Matter code from within the app afterward and link it to other ecosystems.

The app itself has improved a lot over the past couple of years. It is still busy, with a huge number of options on offer, and it can feel a bit overwhelming at first, but it is far easier to navigate than it used to be.

Under the Scene tab, you will find more than 100 lighting effects, grouped into categories like Atmosphere, Festival, Natural, and Emotion, with names such as Raindrops in Mountains, Peach Orchard, and Starry Sky.

The LuminBlend-focused effects are where this lamp really shows what it can do, with options like Ukiyo-e demonstrating just how smooth the color transitions can be.

There is also the AI Lighting Bot 2.0 built in, which lets you type or speak prompts to generate custom lighting effects. You could try things like “camp fire,” “Halloween purple party vibes,” or even “West Ham FC celebration,” and it will attempt to match your request with a suitable scene.

If you still cannot find exactly what you want, the DIY section gives you full control to build your own effects, and you can share your creations with the wider Govee community or download ones made by others.

Performance

Within the app, the Floor Lamp 3 is effectively treated as three separate lights. You have the main lightstrip, the upper base ring, and the lower base glow.

Each of these is further divided into segments, with eight sections on the strip, four on the upper ring, and five on the lower section. That gives you control over 17 individual zones, which opens up a huge range of lighting possibilities and is a big reason why this lamp stands out from earlier models and cheaper competitors.

The headline brightness is 2100 Lumens, and it makes a real difference in everyday use. Compared to something like the SwitchBot RGBICWW Floor Lamp, which tops out at 1200 Lumens, the gap is obvious, although you are also paying close to three times the price.

The SwitchBot is a solid budget option, but the Govee operates on a completely different level in terms of brightness, smoothness, and overall polish.

This is not just an accent light. It is more than capable of lighting a large room on its own, and the wide 1,000K to 10,000K color temperature range means you can shift from very warm tones to bright, daylight-style lighting with ease.

The 170-degree spread also helps here. Whether you aim it directly into a space or bounce it off a wall, it covers a much wider area than most upright lightstrip designs.

Color quality is where the Floor Lamp 3 really shines, especially when you take into account the different lighting zones. Govee has always been strong in this area, but LuminBlend+ pushes things further, and the combination of all three lighting elements creates a striking overall effect.

Colors look smoother, more natural, and far less segmented than before. Pastel shades in particular come across much more convincingly, without the banding or uneven transitions that can spoil the effect on lower-end lights.

The dual-sided illumination adds to the immersion, casting light both forward and backward to fill the space more evenly. When you combine that with the segmented control in the app, it becomes possible to create some genuinely impressive lighting scenes.

Music sync is included as well, reacting either through the built-in microphone or audio from your phone. It is not a new feature, but it is still a fun addition if you want the lamp to double as part of a party setup.

Final thoughts

The Floor Lamp 3 feels like Govee refining its floor lamp formula rather than just iterating on it.

It keeps the playful, customizable nature the brand is known for, but backs it up with genuinely strong lighting performance this time around. The brightness is there, the coverage is there, and most importantly, the color quality now matches the ambition.

Yes, it is more expensive than many alternatives, although it still undercuts and outperforms comparable Philips Hue options, and the app can feel a little overwhelming at first. But once you get past that, this is one of the most capable smart floor lamps you can buy right now.

How we test

When we publish our reviews, you can rest assured that they are the result of “living with” long term tests.

Smart lights usually live within an ecosystem, or a range of products that – supposedly – all work in harmony. Therefore, it’s impossible to use a connected light for a week and deliver a verdict.

Because we’re testing smart home kit all day, everyday, we know what matters and how a particular light compares to alternatives that you might also be considering.

Our reviews are comprehensive, objective and fair and, of course, we are never paid directly to review a device.

Read our guide on how we test smart lights to learn more.

FAQs

Is the Govee Floor Lamp 3 Matter compatible?

Yes it is, although you’ll still need the Govee app for the widest range of effects and colour choices.
