Widow’s Bay to return for a second season
With just one episode to go for season 1, Apple TV announced today that Widow’s Bay has been confirmed for a second season.
The show premiered last April to broad critical acclaim and a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and has since shot up to the top of Apple TV’s charts in many countries, including the US.
Widow’s Bay’s cast includes Matthew Rhys (The Post), Kate O’Flynn (Happy-Go-Lucky), Stephen Root (Breaking Bad), Kevin Carroll (The Leftovers), Dale Dickey (Breaking Bad), Hamish Linklater (The Big Short), among others.
Here’s the show’s synopsis, according to Apple:
In “Widow’s Bay,” something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination.
Alongside the season two renewal, Apple TV announced a new multiyear overall deal with Widow’s Bay creator, showrunner, and executive producer Katie Dippold, but the company did not disclose further details.
Right now, there are also no details about when the show is expected to return after it concludes its first season next week, nor whether the cast will see any additions or departures.
