Philips is preparing an update to its Hue Flourish table lamp, boosting brightness from 806 lumens to 1,100, according to a (now deleted) listing spotted on Amazon Germany. The refreshed model looks set to challenge IKEA’s recently unveiled Varmblixt doughnut lamp, though global availability dates remain unclear.
The increase in lumens means the Flourish lamp should deliver a noticeably brighter glow in your living space.
Unlike the pendant or ceiling versions of the Flourish, the table lamp doesn’t have a fixed light source. Instead, it ships with a Philips Hue E27 bulb that provides full‑colour illumination and can be swapped out when needed.
That bulb is what drives the upgraded brightness, while the lamp itself retains its familiar dimensions of 26.1cm wide and 17.5cm high.
Pricing appears to be in line with the previous Flourish table lamp, which launched at $153.99 / £129.99. That price includes both the E27 bulb and the glass lamp housing.
For context, IKEA’s Varmblixt doughnut lamp will retail at $99.99 (about £75) when it launches in April, though international pricing is still to be confirmed. Therefore, IKEA remains the cheaper option if budget is the deciding factor.
However, the choice isn’t purely about cost. Philips Hue’s ecosystem is one of the most established in smart lighting, with the Hue Bridge offering seamless integration across bulbs, lamps, and accessories. If you’ve already invested in Hue products, the Flourish table lamp is likely to slot neatly into your setup.
On the other hand, IKEA’s lamp is part of a broader design‑driven collection and may appeal more to those prioritising aesthetics over smart home functionality.
Finally, it’s worth remembering that you don’t necessarily have to choose one brand over the other. Many IKEA lamps can accommodate Philips Hue bulbs, giving you the option to blend IKEA’s distinctive designs with Hue’s smart lighting capabilities.
